2022 Project Grad
Shoe Drop-off Announcement
Sunday, January 16 – 9am-1pm at Mascoma High School
The 2022 Project Grad team is excited to have the opportunity to inform you of one of our 2022 Mascoma Project Grad initiatives, our Shoe Drive fundraiser. This year’s Project Grad team has partnered up with the FUNDS2ORGS Organization to create a unique funds raising opportunity. The goal is to raise money for the 2022 graduating class of Mascoma High School, by donating new and lightly used shoes locally, that would ultimately be collected and transported to impoverished countries around the world. This initiative is much more involved than just a basic clothes or shoe drive. It incorporates a much larger goal of assisting individuals in 3rd World Countries to develop the entrepreneurial skills and resources to help bring their local communities to the next level of true economic independence.
FUNDS2ORGS is one of our nation’s leading social enterprises, that helps develop much needed entrepreneurial networks and training programs in 3rd world and developing countries, like Haiti and Honduras. The micro-enterprise partners from FUNDS2ORGS don’t simply donate the shoes you collect, but more importantly teach local residents, micro-entrepreneurs, how to take the initiative by learning valuable life skills that could bolster their local communities.
This truly is a win-win opportunity for us. We benefit directly from the money earned by collecting shoes we wouldn’t otherwise use, while at the same time we’ll be assisting individuals who may not even own a single pair of shoes to go to work or school in.
To that end, this year’s Project Grad group wants to be sure to inform you that we’ll be conducting a Shoe Drop-off and Pick-up Event at the Mascoma High School this Sunday, the 16th of January from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. This event has been organized to help facilitate the shoe collection and drop-off process by creating a one-stop-shop, where donators can see the process first-hand, interact with the individuals who are planning this year’s events, and witness the efforts being made to get our Mascoma graduates off on the right foot as they prepare to move on with lives. We’ll be conducting another of these events at the end of the month on the 29th of January. The group also has collection boxes located throughout Canaan (the Canaan Library, the Mascoma High School, and the Mascoma Community Health Center) to better help you with your donation efforts.
The shoes we collect could likely provide a person with the 1st pair of shoes he/she has ever had!
Thank you for taking the time to read this message, and we sincerely hope to see you on Sunday, ready to donate those new or lightly used shoes that would probably end up collecting dust in your closet never being worn.
